Survival Meditations For Parents of Teenagers
By Pamela Lowell

Preface

Although I’ve given counseling advice to families with teenagers for over twenty years, parenting my own teenager has been the most humbling experience I’ve ever encountered—bar none. Many times during the preparation of this manuscript I felt like the last person in the world who should be offering spiritual advice on such a difficult topic! Despite my professional training, our family is far from perfect; we worry, we argue, we bump up against each other’s vulnerabilities, and then we apologize—all the time.
In fact, during the early months of my son’s teenager-hood, I would often sit at my computer, typing furiously, trying to make sense of all of the changes that he and I were going through. There on the screen, I would vent my anxieties and anger and grief, and then after each entry, I would try to write something hopeful, something God-full—to help me keep going, to try to survive. One day, when it finally seemed like we were entering into a new and better phase, I wondered if anyone else could benefit from my experiences. As it turned out, perhaps they could.
A simple book with daily meditations and prayers

ENDORSEMENTS FOR SURVIVAL MEDITATIONS

"With a l4-year-old son, I am glad to have a book on hand he and
I can read together! I sometimes wonder if I will survive his
teenage years, but I know, too, I am not alone. I also know that
having a time for quiet meditation, whether around the dinner table
or before bedtime, is very important for both of us. This book
offers a spiritual discipline to parents of all teens."

"How wonderful and needed!! I can't believe I have never read anything like your stuff before. It is so wise and real. The psychological wisdom is of course so sound. But it's the God-talk, the real, humble talk of mistakes and 'needing more than ourselves' (other parents and God or a high power) to get through this difficult time that is so appealing, inspiring and powerful. I find it very alluring in its humility, authenticity, and spirituality. It smacks of human, psychological and spiritual Truth."
